Abstract
Esta pesquisa objetivou investigar as metas de socialização de familiares beneficiários do Programa Bolsa Família e as expectativas em relação à escola para o futuro dos filhos e filhas. Participaram deste estudo 38 famílias, dos quais 22 residiam na periferia urbana/BR e 16 habitavam em uma comunidade ribeirinha da Amazônia/BR. Os instrumentos utilizados foram o Inventário sociodemográfico, e duas questões subjetivas: “Como você imagina a vida dos seus filhos daqui a 10 anos?” e “Por que você quer que seus filhos frequentem a escola?”. Como principais resultados verificou-se que os pais e mães de ambos os contextos têm como metas àquelas relacionadas ao autoaperfeiçoamento, que valoriza a independência e a autonomia. Por sua vez, as expectativas acerca da escola evidenciaram um desejo de que tal instituição possa favorecer condições para uma vida profissional de sucesso, com o exercício de profissões de elevado status social.
