Résumé

The activities of the Medical Pedagogical Station of the Pestalozzi Society of Minas Gerais in treating learning and behavior disorders in children are analysed based on information of the periodical Infância Excepcional published in the Bulletins of the Public Education and Health Secretariat of Minas Gerais government during the 1930s and 1940s. The purpose is to verify how medical and pedagogical practices merged, and how the procedures then adopted contributed to the construction and later expansion of psychology applied to education in Brazil. This area of professional expertise seems to have arisen in great part from this proximity between medicine and education, from which the Pestalozzi Society medical pedagogical station of the is one of the most consistent and fruitful examples, promoting the development of psychological and psycho-social diagnosis and procedures of clinic and educational intervention.
