Resumo

This paper considers the bifactorial theory of learning proposed by O. H. Mowrer. Although the theory is seen as a powerful tool, there are some weaknesses in it, and these are discussed. Advantages of the theory are also pointed out. The author concludes that, considering the present state of research on conditioning, this theory offers the most attractive alternative.
