Abstract

En Puerto Rico existe una alta prevalencia de depresión e ideación suicida (IS) en adolescentes. Este estudio examinó la respuesta a una terapia cognitivo-conductual para la depresión con un protocolo para el manejo del riesgo suicida incorporado. Participaron 115 adolescentes con depresión mayor. Se realizaron análisis descriptivos, pruebas t de medidas repetidas, análisis de significancia clínica e índice de cambio confiable, correlaciones y de regresión múltiple. La IS al comienzo del tratamiento no tuvo un efecto sobre el tratamiento para la depresión. Un 34.8% de los/as participantes demostraron un índice de cambio confiable de las puntuaciones del pre al post tratamiento en IS y un 89.6% evidenciaron cambio clínico significativo en post-tratamiento. El nivel de desesperanza y la IS al comienzo del tratamiento mostraron un valor predictivo hacia el nivel de IS al finalizar el tratamiento. En conclusión, la mayoría de los/as adolescentes con depresión e IS tratados con la TCC redujeron significativamente sus pensamientos suicidas.
