Abstract

La depresión es uno de los trastornos más incapacitantes porque afecta todas las áreas de la vida y es dos veces más común en mujeres que en hombres. La rumiación se define como las ideas repetitivas sobre la propia tristeza, sus causas y posibles consecuencias, es un predictor de algunas psicopatologías y es un factor fuertemente vinculado con la depresión. El propósito de este estudio fue evaluar  las diferencias en rumiación por género en estudiantes universitarios. Participaron 500 estudiantes (250 hombres y 250 mujeres) con una media 20.75 años (SD=1.84) de la Universidad Autónoma del Estado de Hidalgo. Se aplicaron la “Escala de Respuestas Rumiativas” (ERR)  y el “Inventario de Depresión de Beck” (BDI). Los resultados mostraron una correlación positiva entre rumiación y depresión, así como respuestas elevadas de rumiación y depresión en las mujeres, por lo que el factor género fue significativo en la correlación parcial.
