Abstract

We administered the Spanish Diagnostic Interview Schedule for Children to the mothers of 135 Puerto Rican boys and girls 6, to 11 years old, as part of a comprehensive evaluation that included measures obtained from children, mothers and teachers. Our clinical team diagnosed the participants using a11 available information and assigned them to one of four diagnostic groups: ADHD Combined Type, ADHD Inattentive Type, nonADHD clinical diagnoses, and no clinical diagnosis. We conducted a conditional probability analysis on ADHD symptoms according to the diagnoses under study. Our results suggest that the relative diagnostic utility of AOHD symptoms in the Puerto Rican cultural context differs from the one reported in the United States.
