Witkin, Price-Williams, y Col. (1974), aprovechan la publicación de una nueva serie de datos respecto de la relación de la socialización con la diferenciación psicológica para hacer una excelente revisión de estudios de naturaleza transcultural, acerca del estilo cognoscitivo dependencia - independencia del campo. La multitud de estudios citados muestran con claridad que esta dimensión puede ser medida con un alto grado de confiabilidad a distintos niveles de edad, en distintas clases diferentes culturas.
