Abstract

This study attempts to standardize in terms of meaning a number of combinations of consonant-vowel-consonant (trigrams). A total of 92 students at the National University of Mexico gave positive or negative responses in relation to the question if the trigram appeared to be or to sound like a word. The number of affirmative responses for each trigram was used to define its meaning, and this number varied between 3 and 90. The situation analysis and the comparisons with other similar studies led to the conclusion that internal consistency was high.
