Those commitments include furthering well-being, empowerment, and human development. Stemming from these values ​​and commitments, this paper promotes a reflection on democratic systems. Models of representative and participatory democracy are discussed. The knowledge that community psychology has generated about participation and its relevance to the implementation of participatory democratic processes is also presented. The article contains three examples of participatory democracy projects in Puerto Rico along with their achievements and challenges, and ends with recommendations to continue this path and promote it in other countries.</p> ER -
